Tincal lab is a contemporary jewelry workshop and gallery space founded by Portuguese jeweler Ana
Pina. Created in 2015 under the motto curating and experimenting in contemporary jewelry, Tincal lab is located in the heart of Porto Art District and works actively in the promotion of this amazing creative area, featuring workshops with invited jewelers, individual and collective exhibitions, by local and international artists.

Tincal lab Challenge is an annual initiative that starts with an Open Call to jewelers from all over the world and results in a collective event of exhibition and sale that opens at Tincal lab every November. With the main objective to show the quality and diversity of contemporary jewelry, opening its doors to the general public, Tincal lab invites every year jewelers from around the world for a Challenge: the creation of up to 3 pieces with a maximum price, inspired by a theme. In 2024, the 10th edition of this initiative suggests a reflection on the theme “Jewelry and Freedom” and brings to Porto pieces from 78 artists from 31 different countries, created exclusively for this event, with the maximum price of 150€.

This initiative aims to inspire artists and raise public awareness by allowing jewelry to leave its more conventional commercial circuit while making its artistic side more accessible – also from a monetary point of view.
In this exhibition, artists use freedom as a source of inspiration, exploring its importance for us as human beings, its fragility, its complexities, its symbols and the different facets it encompasses – these are not only pieces of jewelry, but also reflections, statements, works of art.
